Lupset Health Centre Young Patient’s Charter

• We will not turn a young person away if they wish to attend their appointment alone and are over 16.
• We will not turn a young person away if they wish to attend their appointment alone and are over 13 and assessed to be able to consent to medical treatment without needing their parents’ / guardians’ permission.
• We will respect young patient’s confidentiality and we openly and clearly display our policy.
• We will make every effort to not patronise young patients and will show the same respect to all patients regardless of their age, sexuality, ethnicity or social background.
• We will keep the information we display to young patients up to date, on both the website and in the waiting area.
• We will not use jargon and will make sure all information provided is clear and easy to understand by all.
• We will provide a safe and welcoming environment for all patients.
• We will welcome any feedback from young patients and will act on each comment accordingly.

Getting to our surgery
Most of you will be within walking distance of the surgery, however if you do need to access public access to and from the surgery, you can plan your journey online by accessing the Metro website; www.wymetro.com.

Male nurse
Should you wish to be seen by a male member of staff the surgery can offer appointments with a number of male GPs or a male nurse practitioner, who you can see you for minor ailments. He can prescribe medication and refer to other services, just as a doctor can.

Male admin staff

We have a male member of the admin staff who is the only male member of the admin staff, but is more than happy to speak to patients who feel that they would prefer to discuss their health needs, or any practice related issue with a male member of staff. Please ask at reception for his availability.

Confidentiality
Confidentiality is important to us at Lupset Health Centre.

• We currently offer a private room away from reception should you wish to discuss sensitive subjects with a receptionist.
• We will not discuss your records with anyone other than yourself without your consent.
• Our receptionists do now ask why you are visiting the surgery to help direct you to the best care possible; however you do not have to tell her why if you would prefer.
• Although the majority of our office staff are female, if you would prefer to speak with a male member of staff we will try our best to accommodate.

Sexual Health
We have now undergone training and will offer a c-card service which provides free contraception at Lupset Health Centre. Should you not wish to discuss this with a female member of staff please ask to speak to the Manager.

Spectrum Community Health CIC
The Contraception and Sexual Health service provided by Spectrum is free, friendly and confidential. Spectrum’s highly trained staff assists people of all ages in making informed and safe decisions about sex and sexual health. You can visit the Sexual Health Clinic, Spectrum, which is located behind the Asda Living in Trinity walk, at the below times.

Kooth
Kooth is a free online service that will offer emotional and mental health support for children and young people. When you sign in you can choose an “Avatar” and this helps keeps you safe and anonymous. When you sign in you can have a ‘drop-in chat’ with a counsellor or therapist, or you can book a one-to-one session. The counsellors and therapists are available 365 days a year up until 10pm. You can also chat to other young people anonymously on the forums whenever you wish.

Who is it suitable for?
Kooth is suitable for any children or young people aged 11-19 (25 in some areas). It can help with lots of different including:-

• Family Problems
• Eating Disorders
• Loneliness
• Bullying
• Anxiety and Depression

How do I access it?
If you would like to sign up with Kooth then go to www.kooth.com and select ‘Join Kooth now’ and follow the instructions provided. Kooth is currently available for patients who live in the Wakefield area.

Will I have to pay?
No, Kooth is a free service.

Young People’s Drug & Alcohol Service
If you are under 18 and are having problems with drugs or alcohol you can access free and confidential advice from this service. They will not judge you or tell you what to do but they will be there to help you make changes if you wish.
